TNT Express has been using the same large, very heavy roll cage for decades. Hoza has developed a new logistic product for the parcel carrier that is more suitable for its process and meets the health and safety regulations.

The current cage needed a thorough modification, particularly on user-friendliness. For example, a lot of strength was needed to open and close the doors, which made it physically very difficult for some people to work with the cage. This was the reason why TNT Express requested the development of a new roll cage. 

We chose to design a roll cage that is smaller than the current one and similar to the recently developed roll cage for PostNL. Inevitably some adjustments were necessary: a parcel roll cage is much heavier and requires more specific handling demands. For example we assembled an ergonomic push and pull bar, in order to be able to control the roll cage in a responsible way, while a person's hands are also well protected.

Starting point was the recognisability. The different logistic products within the group need to be visibly associated with a strong corporate identity. Furthermore, we applied the same parts to both roll cages, which results in efficiency benefits when repair is needed. The low number of damages means a huge increase in lifetime of the roll cage.

The new roll cage is considerably lighter than its predecessor. Less raw material is needed, hence fewer scarce resources. Next to this, the reduced weight causes less fuel consumption during transport, which means lower CO2 emissions and reduced expenses. Moreover, we have used more recyclable materials; for example, the bottom is made of 100% plastic material. All improvements combined, turn this new roll cage into a lighter, more sustainable, more pleasant to use and cheaper roll cage.
